Retail pods extension delivering a unique shopping experience.
Taylor & Townsend performed a long-term project management function at Canal Walk Shopping Centre. In 2009 the mandate was to deliver the Retail Pods Extension project on behalf of Hyprop Investment Limited and Ellerine Bros. The build involved an additional 16,000 m² of retail GLA with approximately 50,000 m² of structured parking, taking the centre to 151,000 m² — the largest retail centre in South Africa. The 'Lanterns', as coined by the press, was the first of its kind in South Africa as a strip retail offering.
